The genus Salvia L. has more than 900 species distributed throughout the globe. 21 are growing in Ukraine. All of this have essential oils. officinalis and sclarea been used culture widely medical practice. chemical composition other sage possibility their use pharmaceutical practice almost not studied. Taking into account results chemotaxonomic studies flora Ukraine, prevalence prospects for introduction culture, further were selected raw materials S. grandiflora, pratensis verticillata.
aim. aim study was to conduct a chromato-mass spectrometric aboveground organs grandiflora L., verticillata establish these practice.
Materials methods. objects leaves officinalis, leaves, stems flowers verticillata, which harvested on basis botanical garden Ivan Franko National University Lviv. research volatile substances carried out by method GC-MS Department Natural Sciences Foreign Students Toxicological Chemistry Zaporizhia State Medical University.
Results. As result study, 243 found 149 identified. 77 80, 26 63 respectively, , – 28, 30 48 substances, 39, 22 39 respectively. Dominant compounds among terpenoid nature are: cyclofenchene, camphene, 1,8-cineole, α-thujone, β-thujone, camphor borneol, caryophyllene, humulene, viridiflorol, sabinene, pyranone, β-pinene, phytol, kolavenol, β-copaen, loliolide, pseudolimonene spatulenol. Among dominant 8 detected first time species: loliolide pseudolimonene.

Chemical composition of essential oil and leaf anatomy of Salvia bertolonii Vis. and Salvia pratensis L. (Sect. Plethiosphace, Lamiaceae).

The taxonomical relationship between Salvia pratensis and S. bertolonii has been unclear for a long time. Salvia bertolonii has alternatively been considered a synonym, a subspecies, a problematic subspecies and a form of Salvia pratensis. However, both these two species are sometimes used in traditional medicine instead of sage (Salvia officinalis) or as an adulteration for the same drug. In o...

Chemical and genetic relationships among sage ( Salvia officinalis L.) cultivars and Judean sage ( Salvia judaica Boiss.).

The essential oil composition and genetic variability of common sage ( Salvia officinalis L.) and its three ornamental cultivars ('Purpurascens', 'Tricolor', and 'Kew Gold') as well as Judean sage ( Salvia judaica Boiss.) were analyzed by GC-FID, GC-MS, and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Common sage and its cultivars contained the same volatile compounds; only the ratio of compounds d...

Cytotoxic activity of the essential oil of Salvia verticillata L.

Salvia is one of the largest genera of  Lamiaceae family. Several species of this genus are perfumed and wealthy in essential oils. Some of them are used in industry, pharmacy and aromatherapy. They have shown different biological effects such as antibacterial and antioxidant activity. For the present study, Salvia verticillata L. was collected from Shahrestanak, Mazandaran, I...

Phytochemical Study and Biological Activity of Sage (Salvia officinalis L.)

This study presents an attempt to evaluate the antioxidant potential and antimicrobial activity of methanolic extract, and essential oils prepared from the leaves of sage (Salvia officinalis L.). The content of polyphenol in the methanolic extracts from the leaves of Salvia officinalis was determined spectrophotometrically, calculated as gallic acid and catechin equivalent. The essential oils a...
